After 10 months of very aggressive day job deadlines I have the next week off and I hope to finally finish the GradientTab control and release a CTP of Ascend.Net 1.5 on codeplex soon.
I had a major hardware failure on my home computer a couple of weeks ago. My power supply burned up and took [...]

Version 1.0.0.6 RTM of the Ascend.Net Windows Forms Controls is now available on codeplex.
We have started on version 1.5 and expect to release a CTP with new controls at the end of October. We will also be expanding on the existing controls as well. We’ve had several requests for new controls in our Community [...]

Version 1.0.0.5 Release Candidate 1 is now available on codeplex. The release is very solid and fixed several issues with using the NavigationPane control dynamically.
I’ve started on several of the new controls that will be released in version 1.5. My day job slowed this release considerably but I have all of this year’s vacation [...]

Beta 4 of the Ascend controls is now available on codeplex. This release cleaned up many non critical issues and improved performance throughout the controls. We are now down to handful of issues before we publish a release candidate. I’m looking forward to starting on the next version’s new controls.

Beta 3 of the Ascend controls is now available on codeplex. The controls now support a “glass” renderer that approximates the new Office 2007 look and feel but still allow the developer to set any color they want.

We also added improved right to left and complex language support.

We will be releasing beta 2 of “Ascend.NET” Windows Forms Controls on Sunday 7/16 on codeplex.
I’m thinking of adding an additional beta to the release schedule. I’m still working on automatically adding the controls and help to Visual Studio. I could add these to the release candidate but I would also like to add the [...]

I’m finding there are more reasons to upgrade your code to use the new TextRenderer class .NET 2.0. At first I added it to the Ascend.Net controls to support complex language scripts. After the switch I’m finding other reasons to use it. Take a look at the images below.
With GDI+ DrawString method

With TextRenderer DrawText method

Have you ever spent way too much time on something that should be simple? I spent a large part of the weekend trying to control focus on the NavigationPane control. In the current version selecting a different navigation button will bring the correct NavigationPanePage into view. What it doesn’t do is set the property grid [...]

Saturday, July 08, 2006  |  From Adventures with .Net controls

I added the property UseCompatibletextRendering to the GradientCaption and NavigationPane controls. The GradientNavigationButton control will inherit this property from GradientCaption.
I use the TextRenderer.DrawText method if the property is false and the old GDI+ DrawString method if it is true. A side effect of this change is that when the property is false the control [...]

Currently I’m working on the toolbox control installer code. This will allow the controls to be automatically installed in Visual Studio. I’ve applied for a package license key from Microsoft and I should have the code working soon.I decided I really like the “glass” looking gradient controls in Office 2007. I’m going to add this [...]

For a long time now I have resisted blogging. It is kind of like user documentation to me. Something that has to be done that distracts me from the fun stuff. Like all things that have to be done I need to charge into it and learn to like it….

Let me point out to one of the coolest projects on CodePlex (if you don't know about CodePlex, do a favor to yourself and read about it here: Rob Caron´s post about CodePlex).

This project is called Ascend.Net and is a set of controls for windows forms development. These controls are all containers, but they are so neat! They are gradient, colored, google-like, office 2003-like and the list goes on.

And they are already developing more controls. Check it out at http://www.codeplex.com/Wiki/View.aspx?ProjectName=ASCENDNET.
